How to Use FaceTime Step-by-Step for Beginners

Staying connected with family and friends has never been easier. With FaceTime, you can see and talk to loved ones right from your device — no technical experience needed.

This simple guide will walk you through everything step-by-step.

What Is FaceTime?

FaceTime is a video calling app built into Apple devices like iPhones, iPads, and Macs. It lets you:

  • See the person you’re talking to

  • Hear them clearly

  • Feel more connected than a regular phone call

Before You Start

Make sure:

  • You have an Apple device (iPhone or iPad)

  • You are connected to Wi-Fi or cellular data

  • FaceTime is turned on

Step 1: Turn On FaceTime

  1. Open Settings

  2. Scroll down and tap FaceTime

  3. Make sure the switch is turned ON (green)

Step 2: Open the FaceTime App

  1. Find the FaceTime app on your home screen

  2. Tap to open it

Step 3: Start a FaceTime Call

  1. Tap the “+” (plus) button

  2. Type the name, phone number, or email of the person you want to call

  3. Tap their name when it appears

  4. Tap FaceTime (video icon) to start a video call

Step 4: During the Call

While on the call, you can:

  • Mute yourself (tap the microphone icon)

  • Turn camera off/on

  • Switch cameras (front/back)

  • End the call by tapping the red button

Step 5: End the Call

When you’re finished:

  • Tap the red “End” button

  • That’s it — you’re done!

Helpful Tips

  • Make sure you’re in a well-lit area so others can see you clearly

  • Hold your phone steady or prop it up

  • Use Wi-Fi for a stronger connection

Stay Safe

  • Only accept FaceTime calls from people you know

  • If you receive a call from someone unfamiliar, it’s okay to ignore it
